Do you want to be a more conscious consumer but don’t know how? Want to support businesses that put people and the planet over profit? Well, an easy way to do both is to look for labels that highlight a company, product, or organization that is making a conscious, determined effort to help the planet and its inhabitants. A great label to keep an eye out for is 1% for the Planet.

1% for the Planet is a nonprofit organization inspiring a global movement of business owners and individuals to support environmental solutions. To become a member of 1% of the Planet, businesses and individuals pledge at least 1% of their annual sales/salaries to approved environmental nonprofits. 1% of the Planet has over 5,840 members committed to the movement, and they have members in over 91 countries. Since 2002, 1% for the Planet has given over $295 million to environmental organizations.
Fun Fact: 1% for the Planet was created in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies.
So next time you go shopping, look for the label and choose to support a brand that recognizes the importance of the planet.
